Hi,
I'm Michael

I’m a qualified mechatronics engineer who studied at the University of Stellenbosch. My biggest passions lie in electronics, programming, design, psychology and people. I have designed and built many different kinds of electronic and robotic systems such as a cube stacker, an amplifier and a random number generator, have re-created and re-coded the famous space invaders game and programmed robotic arms used in automation factories. I also code in many different languages including C, Python, CAD and MATLAB.

I love to spend spare time on reading and learning new subjects. These subjects include programming, robotics and business, most of which is learnt independently through ‘Udemy’ (great website!).

Through-out my university journey I have touched on many important subjects such as thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, computer systems, vibrations, physics, modelling, project management, electronics, robotics, strength of materials and material science. Basically, I have been given a strong foundation upon which to grow my knowledge in any area required. This allows me alot of flexibly to work on almost any project in most environments.

I love being creaitve and innovative, and the way I channel these is through digital design by creating websites such as the one your one, designing logos and advertisements, making short videos and photography

Marks

Marks may or may not be important depending on who you talk to. However, I have attached all my most important marks below for you to see if you'd like.

Grade 12 (IEB)

Cambridge O-level

NBTs

University

Golden key is an academic award given to engineers who are in the top 15%. I have been privileged enough to receive this award for my first, second and third year, pending 4th year.

"Huh?"

Mechatronics is a new field of engineering that not many people know of. It is a combination of electrical and mechanical engineering, hence the name (mecha-mechanical, tronics – electronics). The focus is on the integration of mechanical and electronic systems. It covers a wide range of subjects from both mechanical and electrical engineering degrees. Where this field is mainly applicable is in robotics, computer systems and automation. Because core fundamental knowledge is attained from both fields, a mechatronics engineer can expand into either field, allowing for a highly flexible engineer.

"So...
What can you do? "

I can create and refine P, PI and PID controllers, programme micro-controllers (STM32) using c-code. Calculate natural frequencies of systems and design for damping. Create structures in autoCAD inventor and export for 3D printing, setting tolerances and machining of surfaces.Have an understanding of how BJT's and MOSFET's are made and work as well as the workings of turbines, generators and refrigeration. I have learned fluid flow and heat transfer through different environments and so much more!

I have worked on a lot of different projects and programmes and the best way to display this is by making videos for you to see. Below you can find all the different things I have worked on by clicking on the respective button to be taken to a short YouTube video.

Excel Dashboard

Cube Stacker

Space Invaders

Robotic Arm

Other projects inlcude Phyton desktop applications for windows, amplifiers and 3D printing.

Learning

I love to learn new and interesting things which is why I have love Udemy. Udemy is a website that offers many different courses relating to almost anything. Since I love programming, electronics and business-related things, these tend to be the type of courses I take. By clicking below you will be able to see a screenshot of the courses I have taken and to what completion.

This
Website

The knowledge that allowed me to create this website, from scratch, is from a web-development Udemy course. The graphics and SVGs (the cool animated heading thingies) were designed in Adobe illustrator with the help of some Adobe photoshop as well. This website is mainly front-end, which means there is not much complicated background code going on (since I am not yet efficient in JavaScript). And this whole website is only around 2 Megabytes. If you would like to see the code for this website and some of the other websites I have created then just click on the button below.

Schooling

My schooling career starting in St Columbus primary school with grade 000, and ended in grade 7. I was blessed to end my primary school journey as both a prefect and as top student. I then started high school at Ashton International College where I achieved my Cambridge O-levels in grade 10 and was again privileged to finish my high school career as both deputy head boy and as top student with 6 distinctions.
